After avenging the death of his Mother in Hymns of a Vagabond Game 2, Akelius Flint, went from having only the clothes on his back, a rotting goblin shield, a dagger, and a pack; to having a short sword, a fine small shield, and leather armour. It was a massive upgrade in kit for the poor peasant grave digger, and something neither myself or the DM was expecting to achieve for a few games.
It was time for a new mini.
It took me a long time to find a mini that was bearded, and looked sufficiently "peasant-like" to fit the role. It was a tough search as most 15mm swordsmen have metal armour, a helmet, or some other component that just didn't fit the role. It was a tough search, and I had almost exhausted my options when I found this guy from where else but Splintered Light Miniatures.
This guy is strangely enough from their 15mm Historical Pictish Warriors set. I liked how he looks a little unsure, and how his clothing looks a just a little dated and strange. A great fit for the country bumpkin, setting out into the world. It is a great sculpt and perfect for my needs.
The strange shields that these Pict minis had really drew me towards them as well. Flint is from a small isolated community and I really wanted my mini to reflect just how out of touch they are. I think the square shield fits that nicely.
I have yet to Play Hymns of a Vagabond Game 3, where I will get to use this guy for the first time. I am sure he will be great.
