About JADE

JADE Gaming was formed in 2012, by four geeks with a passion for tabletop gaming, miniatures, and adventuring.

Jeff
From the time he first asked his Uncle Owen if he could go to Tashi Station to pick up some power converters with his boy Biggs to when he crafted his first lightsaber under Samuel L.’s watchful gaze, Jeff has had a passion for Star Wars. And then Last Jedi came out. Starting over has been tough, yet Jeff has found solace in his love of other films, and fancies himself somewhat of a movie/actor buff. Do you need silence broken by a poorly-timed - yet rarely ill-conceived - film reference? Ask (or don't even) and ye shall receive.

Andrew
At the age of 11, the first game Andrew played was Magic the Gathering, and his love for all tabletop games has grown since then. Now he collects all sorts of games, from RPG's, to Board Games, to Miniatures, and keeps a steady stream of geek into his brain by constantly watching his favourite show: Star Trek.

1) Job?

Software and Network Consultant.

2) Fave Tabletop/Board/Card game?

Can I pick 3? 2nd ed AD&D, Canvas Eagles and the original Axis and Allies (one of my first board games I definitely have a soft spot for.)

3) Fave Video Game?

Wolfenstein 3D, and Minecraft. Maybe Starcraft as well. Though I have been really into the Dues Ex series lately. Not just the new ones but the older titles as well. And hey, Doom is always great.

4) Most overrated game?

5) Preferred Character Class?

Fighter. Some one has got to be it and I am more than happy to.

6) Usual alignment?

Fantasy! No wait! Science Fiction! No, Fantasy!

9) Best Fictional Character?

Paul Atreides.

10) Most epic win?

In our 1st ed AD&D Campaign Hymns of a Vagabond, I have survived impossible odds and managed to scrape my way to level 5 over the course years. It has been hard, but playing and surviving with that character is the greatest feeling.

Dave
Dave loves video games, anime, and vinyl figures. The walls of his house are lined with autographed movie posters, and filled with collectibles and comics. Already being a lover of all things geek, the move into tabletop gaming was an easy fit for him.

  1. Hello Jade Gaming !

Nice bios ... hey, your dice look really good. Have you thought about an Oriental Adventures dice set? I'm not sure how well they would sell but I'm just going to put up the suggestion (perhaps a limited run of them?)

I used to play 1e and 2e (AD&D), so I am thinking about Character Class dice that would have:

    Barbarian
    Bushi
    Kensai
    Monk
    Ninja
    Samurai
    Shukenja
    Sohei
    Wu Jen
    Yakuza

The race dice, based on the original O.A. game, would only have four different choices:

    Human
    Korobokuru
    Hengeyokai
    Spirit Folk (Sea, Bamboo, River)

I put together an online supplement/house rules for a hybrid 1e/2e game that features these O.A. classes written to a 2e standard (although I borrowed stuff from the BASIC rules). The site is here if you want to check it out:

    https://thacodragon.blogspot.com.au/

Your existing dice set for 3e and Pathfinder seem to fit well for the core 1e or 2e rules. You could do something specific for AD&D if you think you can sell enough of them, although what you have already seems fine.

    Thanks for your time,

    1. Hi SpookyOne,

We actually normally play 1st and 2nd ed ourselves! We find it much more of a challenge then the newer editions! We have actually considered doing a couple of limited runs of AD&D themed dice. But were looking to see if there was any interest. it is good to know that there is. and if we do go ahead with somethign like that you will be the first know!

I love the idea of Oriental Adventures dice! I have only ever played one short campaign in the 1st ed version myself, but really enjoyed it! That might be worth doing!

    2. Thanks Jade Gaming !

There is a fairly decent 1e and 2e community on Facebook (spread among different groups). I joined a few of these groups to monitor their chat about AD&D, having put together my THACO Dragon site. I found some rules purists but most people seem to operate with their own house rules (especially the 2e groups). I ran across the idea of Character Dice from a picture posted in one of these groups. A number of people were asking where they could buy them.

It seemed that people were simply not aware they even existed (I didn't). When searching I first ran across Noble Knight Games that had some individual dice but the ones that interested me were sold out, and they were too expensive. I searched using Google Image and just randomly clicked on the images, which led me to a few different options. Searching Google normally has your site come up right at, or near, the top of the search results. Your sets seemed like the best way to go.

Anyway, it's very possible that people in these communities would go for your existing 3e dice and/or unique AD&D dice. You can't have enough dice of any sort imho. People who have bought Character Dice might buy more of them. I like to think that people might buy Oriental Adventures Dice even if they didn't play the system (although there are apparently 3e rules for OA that has more or different OA races and perhaps classes? Such 3e rules dice wold probably sell better than 1e ones, although these are the ones I'd prefer. Perhaps Dice that can satisfy both 1e and 3e OA?).

If you play 1e and 2e you might want to check out my site. I also write relatively simple (Book of Lairs type) Adventures for AD&D that can be found on a side link. I don't have much spare time to write, so I only manage to put up about 2 per year.

I wrote two Oriental Adventures stories, set in 2nd Edition. One is a convoluted journey through some Mountains in a Japanese-type setting while the other is set in a Chinese-setting against a group of Fighting Monks. I created my own versions (mods) of 1e Oriental Adventures classes that put them in 2e and did away with some of the harder to explain things like the Kensai's AC progression. Hopefully these character classes are (still?) fun to play. I have not tested them !

I'll have to monitor your Twitter. I don't have a twitter account myself, but I can check on it online. If you want to contact me, just leave a message on THACO DRAGON (in the editorial section perhaps) and hopefully I'll find it !

It's really good running across people that appreciate the AD&D system. In its original form it is a much more lethal system for PCs.

Many thanks and keep up the great work !
